Water your plants right through the top of BIO-SHIELD™. Water and nutrient solutions will flow freely through the bag and drain out the bottom.
If you’re using a drip system or emitters, you can use the specially designed Velcro opening near the top of the BIO-SHIELD™ string channel to feed your water lines. The Velcro opening was sized for each BIO-SHIELD™ as follows: (1 gal – 1 water line ) (2 gal – 3 water lines )( 3 and 5 gal – 4 water lines).
*Do not puncture the bags, or drive stakes through them, as this will create an opening where pests can get in or out.
BIO-SHIELD™ is ideal for flood and drain & hydro setups. Just bag the root-balls and operate as usual, without the bugs.

Absolutely! BIO-SHIELD™ was designed to work like jail for bugs. It keeps pests contained inside the bag, allowing you to concentrate your IPM strategies. Many pests have a short life-span, reproduce quickly and spend part of their lives in the soil as larvae that actively feed on the roots. BIO-SHIELD™ stops them from escaping from the surface of the soil, and they can no longer complete their life-cycle to lay eggs and multiply.
There are several IPM countermeasures that work in concert with BIO-SHIELD™. We prefer organic methods like releasing predator species right into the bag. For specific pests, please contact us and we’ll advise on the best approach.
BIO-SHIELD™ is reusable indefinitely. So long as the bags are intact, they can be shaken out, rinsed, cleaned, dried and used again. If you’re using many of them and a few get damaged (e.g. significant holes), we’d recommend replacing them.
Yes. BIO-SHIELD™ is made of a specialty nylon fabric that is recyclable at most recycling centers.
